Introducing, Ostrich! Never before has a paperclip holder been so awesome. The magnetic silhouette takes on the familiar form of the world’s biggest bird. Beautiful on its own, the shiny metallic finish and funky red “sneakers” make it an interesting desktop ornament. Add on the included black paperclips, however, and you’ve got something entirely new! If I had this functional decor on my desk, I doubt I’d get anything done.

The Clamp Basket by Seungwan Kang & Seonhee Shin

Even if you aren’t a massive lover of using pencils, you are sure to know about the annoying pencil shavings and tiny pieces of left-over rubber that annoying cling onto the desk and litter the workspace. Well, there is now a solution to this problem, and it comes in the form of Clamp Basket.

Clamp Basket does pretty much exactly what it says on the tin; it’s a small container that attaches to the side of the desk and allows the user to collect the rubber residue that is strewn across the work surface. A compact brush is neatly integrated into the top of the bin to ensure that every last bit of rubber is disposed of! Also featured on the top of the device is a pencil sharpener, which directly takes care of those annoying pencil shavings!

Its simplistic design and monotone color scheme ensure that it will not disrupt the aesthetic of the workspace!

Chopping Board by Kate Chesters

Working from my studio in Liverpool I create unique artworks on cutting boards. I wanted to find a way to incorporate art into everyday life – paintings on a wall can seem boring to many people. With my boards, food preparation in the kitchen is so much more fun and colorful.

Each board takes several days to complete, with many steps involved in the process. It’s definitely a messy business! The floor in my studio is absolutely COVERED in resin – I always change into my ‘resin shoes’ so that my regular ones don’t get destroyed!

My work is inspired by landscapes that I have seen on my travels – most particularly the frozen landscape of Reykjavik and the swirling rapids of Niagara Falls. Mountain climbing is one of my favorite things to do, so I get a lot of inspiration from the epic views at a mountain’s summit.

I am a self-employed independent artist. It’s definitely hard work – and a lot of work! – to keep your own business ticking over daily, but I love the challenge. I sell my work online and in small independent shops. One of my big goals is for a large retailer to stock my boards – watch this space!

The blend watch uses color theory to tell the time by Aruliden

Taking the watch and mildly altering one small yet crucial detail, Rinat Aruh and Johan Liden designed the Blend Watch… a watch without traditional hands, but with a design detail that creates the perception of them. The Blend uses the subtractive color model to create color compositions that tell time. The subtractive color model is basically how we get all our pigments (for example cyan + magenta + yellow = black), and the Blend uses it rather inventively to create blocks of color. Instead of relying on two hands to tell the time, the Blend uses two sheets of tinted transparent plastic with hands cut out of them. When placed over a white watch face, the layered sheets showcase a combined color, while the hands appear as the individual colors that were used to begin with. With each passing hour, the watch face creates colorful compositions that get really interesting especially when the two hands align, to reveal the white dial underneath!

A bicycle with a booty by Paolo De Giusti

Bicycles come in many shapes and sizes. There was the Penny-Farthing, with its enormous front wheel. Now there’s the Pursuit bike with the tables turned. Designed for speed, Pursuit bikes have the rider leaning aggressively forward, making it ideal for…well…pursuit. The 36/28 Postale bike (I didn’t come up with the name) is an urban bike in a pursuit bike’s clothes. Named after the diameter of the wheels (36 inches/28 inches), this bike’s got a super-symmetrical frame and a super-sexy aesthetic. Designed to be assembled together, you’ll notice its simple build, making it more of a build-it-yourself project.

The rear wheel is designed with the ability to accommodate an electric motor of sorts (pursuit moped?) or even large transport bags. Designer Paolo De Giusti is currently working on these add-ons. I’m sure we’ll feature that too when it’s ready in all its glory!

We’re only just beginning to discover how powerful the nose is. Designers in a variety of fields are tapping into the sense of smell to do everything from recall memory to encourage romantic attraction. In this case, the creatives at BRISK are using it to help individuals manage eating habits and disorders.

The design, dubbed the Essence Wand, consists of nesting modules that contain filters soaked in essential oils. These include mint for beating hunger, ginger for fighting nausea, lemon for detox, orange for toning the metabolic system, and grapefruit for increasing appetite. Whether you’re someone struggling with a diet or a patient taking medication that limits your appetite, this convenient system, packed into a portable pen-like unit, can help you get your eating habits on track in the most natural and convenient way possible.

Elegant wine decanter by Tom Cotton

You’ve got effective products, and you’ve got effective elegant products. The Eto wine decanter is the latter. Designed to solve a problem, while looking incredibly desirable, the Eto is a rather beautiful looking bottle that preserves opened wine by cutting off air/oxygen contact.

I clearly remember this product I saw on Shark Tank called the Wine Balloon. There’s a distinctly different reaction to when I see it now in 2017, 4 years after its debut. It’s quirky and mildly hilarious, and in hindsight, adding it to an expensive bottle of wine diminishes the pristine visual character of the wine bottle itself. A not-so-elegant solution for something as elegant as a bottle of wine.

The Eto on the other hand was designed to look just as refined and sophisticated as the original bottle of wine itself. Designed using glass, and stainless steel given a mild rose-gold finish, the wine bottle looks incredible when empty, and even more so when full. The choice of color plays wonderfully to both red wines as well as whites. Its half metal, half glass design is devoid of any ugly branding, and gives a view of your wine from the bottom half in a rather iconic Marylin Monroe-esque fashion.

Eto works on a principle of cutting out air flow to the wine completely. Unlike the Air Cork that cuts off a percentage of wine and not all of it, Eto can preserve a newly opened bottle of wine perfectly for weeks with even the most expert wine tasters not being able to tell the difference. Upon opening a bottle of wine, all one has to do is decant it into the Eto and gently press down on the bottle neck as a piston valve lowers itself down till it meets the level of the wine. The Eto can be stored in the fridge to preserve the wine better, and can be directly used to pour out the wine easily, thanks to its glug-proof non-spill opening.

While Eto perfectly preserves wine, what’s good about it is that it doesn’t present itself as an attachment to your wine bottle. It presents itself as a beautiful wine bottle in its own right, which you’ll be more than proud to show off!

The Paint roller by Minute Man

Why did we stop innovating at the Paint roller? It surely isn’t perfect, right? It gets supremely annoying at the corners, for sure. The Edge Roller provides that highly needed bit of design refinement to the roller, allowing to change shape, so that it can easily paint those pesky narrow corners. Let’s hope to see these become a reality! And soon!

The one finger safety cutter by Version 22

Our generation is so used to swiping at things that it only seems natural that something like the Nimble Cutter would exist! Cleverly named, the Nimble is a thimble that sits on your finger, but instead of preventing needle pricks, this little bad-boy comes with a blade that’s capable of being the best cutter you’ll ever own. Convenient in its design, the Nimble’s silicone cap shape allows it to comfortably rest on any finger. A tiny blade on the tip lets you simply slide across surfaces you want to cut, be it paper, tape, clingfilm, etc. The blade’s small enough to slice through packaging, but too small to actually cut skin, which means the most the Nimble will do is poke you a tiny bit.

Perfect for the upcoming festive season (what with all the unboxing you’ll have to do), the Nimble takes a natural gesture, something we pretty much do all day on our touchscreens, and converts it into something useful, so you can ditch those harmful boxcutters and deadly knives!

Drying Rack by Kohler

Kohler is literally a household name. As in, not only is it a well-known brand, it makes great household items! Take for instance the Lift, Kohler’s answer to your wet-utensil related problems. The Lift was designed to take on all sorts of utensils, treating them differently, rather than having them all stashed and dripping away in the same container. The tray consists of an upward raising barrier that allows you to put large utensils like casseroles and saucepans in without having them falling out. The barrier can be collapsed for regular utensils like dishes that can easily be stacked in the grooves of the Lift. Lift also comes with a rather neat collapsible cutlery holder that opens up only when you need it, providing rather useful scenario-specific real-estate. The same goes for a collapsible rack that allows you to dry stemware (wine glasses) with ease, rather than having them lying around with plates and forks, gathering scratches while standing a chance of getting broken. The Lift also has a water channel at its base that guides all the run-off water directly into the sink, keeping your counter neat and your utensils dry.
