Fun and witty iconic design.

This design was inspired by the light on the wall, and it was designed by reinterpreting the image of an imaginary UFO as a child into a baby-like image that was friendly to people. When you turn on the switch, it is an Indian mood light that adds fun to the shape of the UFO. This product is designed to receive power from the battery and turn on the lights through the top button.

Click shelf by Studio Knob

‘Click’ is the result of the action of magnetically joining the nylon ropes to the Click shelf, but it’s not the sound that is the dominant feature of the product… its the result of this sound.

Quite unlike any cabinet/light you’ll ever see in your life, the Click Light by Studio Knob comes with a flat metallic plate that acts as a shelf. Along with the shelf come LED embedded Nylon woven ropes, with magnetic ends that conveniently snap to the metallic shelf. When they do, they light up with a beauty that’s pure and inspired, turning a flat, unassuming storage area into something much more. The nylon ropes can be arranged in any way, and even across different shelves, and they light up beautifully, creating a decor piece that’s difficult to describe without using the word ‘unique’.

The secret to the magical, wireless lighting is the fact that the metallic shelves actually have low-voltage running through them. Right down the middle of the shelf is a partition, that separates the live half from the neutral half of the shelf. The woven LED ropes themselves come with magnetic ends that have positive and negative signs on them, and these ends literally need to be snapped on opposing halves of the shelf to complete a circuit, and they light up beautifully, without wires or switches, leaving one with a sense of awe and amazement. “When designing light fixtures, one of our favorite challenges is redefining the light switch so that it becomes a part of the phase that the fixture suggests”, say Adi Azar and Yotam Shifroni, the designers at Studio Knob. The result is a product that’s equal parts a shelf, a lighting solution, and a feat of magic that will entertain the people interacting with it, liven up the space it’s in, and hopefully inspire us designers to think outside the box more!

The harbor service pedestal Coral is inspired by a species of coral.

This organic shape allows us to create many different configurations. Multiple service hatches and power outlets can be mounted – depending on requirments. The body of the service pedesal is made from durable plastic and is semi transparent to light. This allows us to turn this functional piece of hardware into a light fixture that adds esthetic value to the environment.

If you’re like me and love falling asleep with a little bit of light on, you also know how disruptive that light can be once you actually fall asleep! Then there’s getting up to shut it off… and by the time you get back to bed you’re entire sleep pattern is a mess.

That is, unless you have “Sleeping I”… its an innovative nightlight that gradually dims as you doze off. Just like you, the adorable character closes its sleepy “eyes” to reduce the amount of light showing through. Better yet, there’s a built-in speaker so it doubles as a Bluetooth audio device when you’re awake. Designed for kids who have trouble falling asleep, it’s one some of us adults can appreciate too!

The Komorebi Lamp by Leslie Nooteboom

The Komorebi lamp is a hallmark of great product design because its idea and execution reflects uniqueness and sheer brilliance. Designed to illuminate, but in a way that is seemingly natural and definitely desirable, the lamp doesn’t emit light, but the illusion of sunlight coming to you from your window.

On the inside of the Komorebi lies a projector, that contains video loops of light-patterns that form on walls when sunlight peers through trees, or reflects off water bodies. Select the style you find most ambient and Komorebi casts a beautiful and realistic light shimmer on the wall, looking just like the sun entering your room. What’s more incredible is Komorebi’s ability to position itself and point the reflection at different parts of the wall, corresponding with the sun’s movement from east to west with the passing of time.

London-based designer Leslie Nooteboom is currently looking for investors and product development specialists who can help him translate this from prototype to a final product… and why not? The Komorebi may just easily be the most beautiful lamp ever built.

Bottles are by far a designer’s most favorite item to re-purpose. Head over to Pinterest and you’ll scroll endlessly for days, looking at the kind of stuff people do with old bottles. With the Bottle Light, there’s an element of industrial design involved that we liked and we’re sure you will too. Designed to retrofit into any glass bottle, the light is a cork-shaped component with an LED at the bottom and actual cork on the top. Pop it onto any glass bottle to turn it into a luminary. The design also allows you to charge it via USB, which makes it quite a neat product to gift yourself or others!

The Muul Ligh by Changheon Lee

The Muul light isn’t as much about the light itself but is more about the effects of it. Look at that pattern and it looks innately familiar, but also incredibly calming. The Muul harnesses water’s ability to bend light, creating a caustic network of beautiful light patterns that sway and change with the water’s ripples. When you switch the Muul on, you’re immediately audience to these beautiful reflections as they dance around Muul’s blank canvas, created from a small pool suspended right below the canvas itself. The pool holds the water (which is gently agitated by an electromagnetic ball, creating ripples) while lights around its rim shine down on the water, causing the caustic reflections to shimmer on the white surface above.

What’s incredible is Muul’s ability to not be a light, but rather a phenomenon caused by it. It isn’t designed to make your room brighter, but rather, to make it more beautiful, setting an ever-changing ambiance that is restless, but also at the same time, relaxing!

Alien Torchere by Dmitry Grigoriev and Alexey Zudin

This far-out floor lamp takes on the familiar shape of a playful UFO! Called the Alien Torchere, its exaggerated legs and fluid shape are reminiscent of ones you might see in retro science fiction flicks. Decorative blue inlays inspire the imagination and look like windows for curious creatures inside! They also emit a cool blue light when the lamp is switched on. In contrast with its otherworldly form, its material composition is natural and organic in raw wood that’s polished to extraterrestrial-like perfection!

Not ideally the first thing one would picture in mind upon hearing the words Honey Strip, but all in all this product is rather fascinating. Using the Honeycomb structure’s spatial efficiency along with electricals to create a modular power strip, the Honey Strip lets you plug individual points into one another to create an extension board that not only fits your space requirements, but also looks like an interesting work of art rather than one of those ugly store-bought power strips.

Made of independent hexagonal units that can plug into one another, and also let you plug your gadgets, appliances into it, the Honey Strip is infinitely customizable. It even comes with these halos around the plug-points that give off a warm light when on, allowing it to serve as a patterned ambient light too, aside from fulfilling your power needs!
